The children aided are identified by the social team which investigates families so that those who can benefit from our programme are those who really need it.
Since thousands of children in these areas, or more, cannot go to school because they cannot afford it, we have opened a centre for remedial classes. Many of these children, too old to be reintegrated into the public school system, need help to catch up on their education and also be able to help their families as soon as possible.
Accelerated courses
In order to help them catch up with normal school pupils, we propose accelerated courses: two school years taught in one. To this day, more than 90% of the children cope with the more intense teaching, and many reach ninth grade (equivalent of 3rd year (age 14) in France) in the space of 5 years. With this programme, we ensure that each child has a sound understanding in their native language Khmer, math, physics, chemistry, etc . . . and foreign languages – English and French – which are indispensable in this touristic country
![]() Priority is given to interactive teaching to engage the children, and of course physical and artistic education are also both catered for.
Presently, all levels of education are provided at the Remedial Classes Centre, which follows programmes set by the government. Pupils attend official examinations, and the success rate for Cambodian High School Diploma is always very high(usually more than 90%)
When children are neither lacking in education nor in great danger but simply too poor to attend school, ABPSE supports the children so they may attend their local public school, believing that there is no reason for the organisation not to work alongside the government when it provides ample education. Today, 3500 children are taught in the 30 public schools. . PSE pays the costs for education, as well as providing salaries for teachers, uniforms, school equipment, medical care, sandwiches for those who cannot afford any food, and a financial compensation for the family whilst their child attends school instead of working. . However, when PSE helps these thousands of children have an education, the public schools suffer because of the large numbers, some classes reaching over 90 pupils. In order to aid them accommodate all these children, we have built, in accord with the Municipal Education, several large buildings for extra classes. Toilets, libraries and medical facilities are all part of the investments accepted by PSE, following the agreement which details the participation of each party (Education authorities, school management teams, PSE)
